The Global 3D Food Printing Market size was valued at USD 155.2 million in 2021 and is projected to reach a value of USD 1985.5 million by 2030, at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 56.5% over the forecast period (2022-2030). 3D food printing provides the design and 3D shape of food ingredients and also maintains the structure, texture, and taste of the ingredients. 3D food printing is bringing 3D digital design to a real-world object that is edible. 3D food printing is healthy and good for the environment because it converts proteins from algae, beet leaves, or insects into delicious products.

In the last few years, 3D printing has become mainstream. But making food this way is still in its early stages. In 2006, NASA started researching 3D-printed food because it wanted to make pizza for astronauts. NASA wasn't the only one interested in printing food. In 2007, researchers at Columbia University's Creative Machines Lab created the [email protected] Personal Fabrication System, which can create edibles using cake frosting, chocolate, processed cheese, and peanut butter. The first bakery to produce 3D-printed goods opened in 2011. By 2014, food-specific 3D printers were being manufactured and sold to restaurants as a means of creating intricately designed meals.

Recently, researchers at the Creative Machines Lab have been exploring ways to cook food as it is being printed. Their solution is a laser. Adding lasers to 3D printers allows them to print and cook food in the same machine. Well, laser-cooked 3D-printed chicken was twice as juicy as conventionally cooked chicken. It did not decrease as much. And, most importantly, it tasted like regular chicken. Meat isn't the only thing that could revolutionize 3D printing. Israeli company Redefine Meat is using 3D printing to make plant-based meat. These alt-steaks, as they're called, have more fiber and less fat than traditional steaks. And it contains the same amount of protein but no cholesterol.
